Attention: Washtenaw County will be doing construction on the bridge on Cherry Hill Rd from mid-May through August. This means that HSHV will not be accessible from Plymouth Rd. A detour will be posted, but please keep this in mind when planning travel to and from the shelter.
Looking for a fun way to have your children practice their reading skills? Join us for HSHV's Rescue Reading program select Saturdays 10:00-11:30am. This program includes time reading to our adoptable animals, a group read-aloud and a dog meet-and-greet! This is a drop-off event designed for ages 6-11. For children under 6, we invite you to visit us for Little Paws Storytime.
Due to space concerns, we generally ask that adults do not stay for Rescue Reading, however, we understand that in some situations a child may feel more comfortable with an adult accompanying them. Please let us know in the registration if an adult will be staying for the program. We do ask that if an adult is attending the program, younger siblings/children under 6 do not accompany you. HSHV opens to the public at 11 a.m. (1 hour after the start of Rescue Reading); if adults wish to walk around the shelter, we kindly ask that you do so after Rescue Reading.
Registration: Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 10 children per session.
Fee: $10 per child
Books: While we have many books available, we would love to have your children bring several books to read during the session that are at their reading level.
