Calling all animal lovers between the ages of 12 and 17! The Humane Society of Huron Valley is offering a 6-session Junior Volunteers program to help youth engage in and learn about some of the fantastic volunteer opportunities at our shelter!
Working alongside our Humane Educator and a mentor volunteer, youth in the J.V. program will attend six volunteer training sessions in which they will learn different procedures, policies and safety precautions for working with and caring for animals. Each session will consist of a 45 minute volunteer training program and 75 minutes of onsite volunteer time.
Included in the six sessions will be shelter cleaning, puppy and adult dog socialization, cat comforting, cat feeding, enrichment treat/toy making and many lessons on animal care and welfare.
Registered youth who attend all six sessions will receive twelve hours of volunteer time, which can be used towards required community service hours. Upon completion of all six sessions, certified Junior Volunteers will have opportunities to volunteer independently at HSHV! Only one six session class is required for youth to volunteer. Once they complete the program, they are able to sign up for volunteer shifts as their schedule allows. We do have a 90 day inactive policy which means that we require youth to volunteer at least once every 90 days to remain active volunteers. once a volunteer goes inactive, for safety purposes they may need to take a refresher course or complete the six sessions of the program to return to volunteering.
A $195 fee is required to reserve your spot in this 6-session program. This fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to other sessions or other participants. Please be sure you can attend all dates.
Returning Junior Volunteers: JV's who are interested in resuming volunteering after being inactive for 6+ months will be required to register for and retake the full six session training program. To register as a returning JV when it becomes available, click the "Register for the Junior Volunteer Program" and select "Returning Junior Volunteer." Then, complete your registration as usual. Please note: the reduced fee is for those who have taken all six classes and then have gone inactive after some time of volunteering. If you register for the JV six session training and then do not attend the class, you will need to pay the full fee upon re-registering, not the "returning volunteer" fee since your child has not yet volunteered.
